ZFP57 is a 452 amino acid protein that contains one KRAB domain and seven C2H2-type zinc fingers and is a member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. Localized to the nucleus, ZFP57 functions as a transcriptional repressor that inhibits the expression of Schwann cell-specific proteins, thereby playing a role in the development of the peripheral nervous system. ZFP57 exists as two isoforms that are produced from alternative splicing events. Function: Zfp57 is a putative transcription factor that is a marker of mouse embryonic stem cell pluripotency, the expression of which decreases in the absence of LIF.
